Denver Advantages – The Colorado Rockies

I noticed that our hometown Colorado Rockies start the season today in Houston with our home opener on Monday, May 9 against San Francisco. Opening Day always comes with some anticipation – it’s a sure-fire sign that summer is on the way.

But it’s good reminder that one of the great advantages of living in the Northern Colorado corridor is our proximity to Denver and all it offers. The Rockies have certainly given us a lot to cheer for recently. They made the World Series in 2007, the playoffs in 2009, and had a good season last year falling just short of the playoffs. Coors Field is only an hour drive from Loveland and offers one of the best fan experiences in all Major League Baseball.

Denver teams in general have been playing well lately: the Denver Broncos rode Tebow-mania to the second round of the NFL playoffs, the Denver Nuggets have been to the NBA playoffs for eight consecutive seasons, and the Colorado Avalanche have been one of the strongest NHL squads since the mid-90′s (even though we’ve struggled the last couple seasons).

Throw in major college athletics with Colorado University in Boulder (just a thirty minute drive) and Colorado State (their men’s basketball team made the NCAA tournament this year), and sports fans have access to just about any sport at any level.

And it’s all within an hour drive!
